1. What is the difference between CSET Multiple Subject and CSET Single Subject?

The CSET Multiple Subject test is required to teach K-6 in the public school system in California, whereas the Single Subject exams are typically required to teach one or more subjects to grades 7-12. The CSET Multiple Subject Test covers a wide breadth of knowledge of several academic subjects, while the Single Subject tests require a deeper knowledge of a single subject. Many education credential programs in the Los Angeles area, including USC and Mount Saint Mary’s, require students to pass the CSET along with meeting core course requirements.

4. How many do I need to get correct to pass?

A scaled score of 220 is passing. The multiple-choice section makes up 70% of each score, while the constructed response is 30%. Test-makers don’t release exact information about how this translates into the percentage of questions correct, but a good estimate is that you need at least a 70% average on the multiple-choice and constructed response questions.
