ABOUT ME

By the time I graduated from Kalamazoo College with a B.A. in Philosophy, I knew that I wanted to build a life in academia. Before applying to graduate school, though, I allowed my curiosity to lead me through professional kitchens in Chicago to an overland backpacking trip from Kolkata to Istanbul. My love of philosophy, combined with my commitment to clear-eyed reflection on the social and historical conditions that make us who we are, led me to pursue a Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of Chicago. I am now doing my dissertation research on the place of intuition in contemporary American society and science. When I am not working on my dissertation or tutoring, I am most likely in the kitchen.

MY TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have over five years of experience tutoring high school students on all sections of the ACT and SAT, and I have consistently been recognized for helping my students to dramatically improve their test scores. I also have extensive experience working with college students as a lecturer and teaching assistant in classes at the University of Chicago that range from the history of science to the fundamentals of social theory.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe that education is a collaborative process. For this reason, I take a warm, low-pressure, direct approach to teaching so that my students feel empowered to participate freely. I create individualized tutoring plans that encourage my students to improve at a pace that is as challenging as possible without being overwhelming, and I regularly update these plans as they improve. I place a particularly heavy emphasis on process and approach, which I encourage my students to develop through modeling, dialogue, and repeated practice.
