I grew up in Connecticut and attended Harvard University, where I was a writer for the Harvard Lampoon and Hasty Pudding Theatricals. When I’m not tutoring, I’m writing scripts for animated TV shows like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Lego Star Wars and Transformers, so I’m pretty much a power geek of the highest level. You might think that as a writer, I mainly tutor English, but I’m actually a shameless math nerd and love helping kids boost their grades and scores in both subjects. I’m also an animal lover who’s always got a cat (or dog, or possum) on his lap, so if you have pets, they’ll probably join in on the tutoring too.
ABOUT ME
MY TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I’ve been teaching and tutoring for nearly 30 years. I began as an SAT instructor for The Princeton Review, and I soon became their SAT Program Director and a Master Tutor in charge of hiring and training other tutors. I’ve taught SAT, ACT, SAT Subject Tests, ISEE, and GMAT, and I’ve achieved the maximum score on every test I teach. I also love academic tutoring in math and English, and I’ve worked with dozens of students on their application essays, helping them gain admission to Ivy League schools and other top colleges and grad schools. I’ve worked with celebrity kids and launched programs at inner-city learning centers, and I particularly enjoy helping kids with learning differences and other challenges reach their full potential.
MY TEACHING STYLE
As a comedy writer, I use humor to make learning fun, but still get the serious work done. I also love to experiment with different teaching methods to discover what works best for each student’s learning style. I enjoy working with students of all ages, and whether you’re a super-geek or you’d rather be at the beach, chances are I’ll be able to make tutoring something you’ll actually look forward to.
